Making Policy Work for You:
Tips for Meeting with Your Legislators on Lobby Day

Federal policy can affect the work you do, whether its through school
lunch regulations, access to locally grown foods, or farm conservation that
affects our clean air and water Since policy can influence you, its
important to stay informed and let your legislators know how you feel about
policies that affect you

Before Lobby Day on March 19th

Contact Steph Larsen at steph@foodsecurityorg or at 2025438602 to
indicate your interest in scheduling meetings with your legislators In
order to ensure that meetings can be scheduled, it would be helpful to
contact Steph before March 12 Teams are already forming, so contacting
Steph will insure that our lobbying efforts are coordinated, and that
people are grouped according to state and interests
If Steph tells you that your state doesnt have a team yet, you can call
to schedule your meeting with either a legislator or their staff
Staffers are often the folks who advise the legislator on particular
issues, and since it is sometimes difficult to meet with the legislator,

therefore, watching where you step barefoot this summer can save your feet
from exposure to the human papilloma virus HPV, the extremely contagious
virus that causes warts
HPV enters the skin through small cuts and abrasions on the
bottom/sole of the foot While warts are essentially harmless and
treatable, plantar warts can be quite painful “ with sharp pain and burning

Home Health Teletriage Tips for Physicians

1 As it relates to home health, teletriage begins when the
patient/caregiver contacts the home health agency with a
health-related problem

2 The home health agency must make the appropriate disposition
of the call by giving advice, scheduling a home visit, or
sending the patient to the emergency room This may or may
not involve a call to the physician

3 A physicians office similarly triages calls and may give
treatment advice, arrange to see the patient, or send him or
her to the emergency room Another option may be to contact
the home health agency to make an onsite visit

4 Effective teletriage promotes the appropriate use of home
health services and resources Physicians can support this by
providing clinical parameters and proactively addressing
potential interventions to avoid an emergent situation

5 PRN orders for nursing visits and/or symptom-related problems
could potentially reduce or eliminate urgent

Sound and Microphones

Muting

Be certain that your microphone is muted turned off at all times,
except when you are speaking or presenting to another site Here is the
difficult part to remember”after speaking, be sure to re-mute the
microphone Otherwise, there may be feedback and echoing

Placement of Microphone

Have students practice their speaking parts by projecting their voice so
that it can be clearly heard and understood Generally, during the live
videoconference nervousness will cause students to be more soft-spoken
than during practice If the students cannot be heard, the entire
meaning of the presentation can be lost Planning your presentation with
proximity of the microphone in mind can help

Some videoconference systems are more sensitive than others For some
units such as the Polycom Viewstation, it is only necessary for the
students to be close to the unit or microphone However, for other
systems it may be necessary to have the student who is speaking hold the
microphone or stand close to a microphone on a stand so that they can

Adapted from Learning Services, University of Texas - Austin

A foreign language course is different from any other course
you have taken before; you MUST study almost every day You
cant study for the course only on Tuesdays/Thursdays, or
Mondays/Wednesdays/ Fridays, or Sunday nights, and expect
