Refrain from openly displaying attractively wrapped presents in your home For decorative purposes, use wrapped empty boxes After gift shopping, place your purchases in the trunk of your car as soon as possible Avoid leaving shopping bags or gifts inside your house or vehicle where they can be seen by passersby Be especially watchful for suspicious persons during this season Be alert to individuals who follow you and/or watch you place items in your car Report all suspicious activity to security or your local Police Department Always lock your doors every time you leave the house Be aware of securing checkbooks, wallets and cash as these items are prime holiday theft targets Keep these items out of view Avoid keeping large amounts of cash in your home When leaving the house unattended, ma ke sure a light is on in the evening hours or will come on when evening approaches
There are very efficient automatic timers available in the local hardware or convenience stores Always have a porch light on both front and back porches that will light with motion Make sure bushes and hedges are well trimmed to make it more difficult for a would be burglar or robber to hide while you are gone from your residence When away, stop delivery of newspaper or solicit a neighbor to pick your paper up A newspaper in a driveway or thrown at the front door indicates that the resident is not home, making the property an easy target for burglary When arriving home always be alert for anything unusual If you do not feel comfortable going into your home for any reason, leave and attempt to find someone that will accompany you into your house
